Phantom Rengo, sometimes called ‘Rengo Kriegspiel’, is an extremely funny variant of the rather dull phantom go. It is played by two pairs on two boards, but each player sees only one board with a restrictive view on the moves of himself and his direct opponent. During the game, more moves by your and your opponent’s partners are discovered. A referee will announce when a stone is already present, likewise, ataris and captures will be announced. At the end, the game changes from an exploration journey to a nearly proper game of go. Phantom Rengo is as much fun for the spectators as for the players, but do not miss to be on the game.
At the EGC, Phantom Rengo is played on 13*13 boards without handicap.
No formal thinking time. If the game slows down unreasonably, the referee may count seconds down from ten to urge the players to play.
